Join a committee and help shape the future of NMCSS! Our committees are led by dedicated chairs and offer members opportunities to contribute their expertise and passion to the organization's mission.
To serve on a committee, please complete the NMCSS Committee Preference form to express your interest. Below is a short description of the duties of the various NMCSS Committees.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee works to grow and strengthen our community of social studies professionals. This committee recruits and retains members, maintains membership records, develops engagement strategies, and tracks membership statistics and trends to keep NMCSS thriving.
Partnership and Networking
The Partnership and Networking Committee builds and maintains relationships with organizations and stakeholders that support social studies education. This committee identifies collaborative opportunities, coordinates joint initiatives, represents NMCSS in professional networks, and keeps the Board informed of partnership activities and opportunities.
Marketing and Communications
The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for promoting NMCSS and keeping our community informed and engaged. This committee develops marketing strategies, manages the Council's website and social media, oversees the creation of newsletters and promotional materials, and ensures our programs and initiatives reach members and the public.
Fundraising and Sponsors
The Fundraising and Sponsors Committee secures the financial resources needed to support NMCSS programs and initiatives. This committee develops fundraising strategies, identifies and secures sponsorships and grants, coordinates fundraising events, and reports on fundraising progress and revenue to the Board.
Advocacy and Legislation
The Advocacy and Legislation Committee advocates for policies and practices that strengthen social studies education in New Mexico. This committee monitors legislative developments, coordinates advocacy campaigns, represents the Council's positions to policymakers, and keeps members informed about legislative updates and advocacy opportunities.
Events and Professional Development
The Events and Professional Development Committee plans and delivers high-quality learning and networking experiences for NMCSS members. This committee organizes the annual conference and other events, develops professional development opportunities, manages event logistics and budgets, and continuously seeks feedback for improvement.
