The annual NMCSS Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards recognize exceptional New Mexico classroom Social Studies teachers in the areas of Elementary (grades K-6), Middle School (grades 5-8), Secondary (grades 7-12), and Preservice Teacher.
Award winners will receive a complimentary one-year membership in NMCSS. Each award winner will be honored with a plaque.
Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year
(Grades K-6)
This award recognizes an exceptional elementary educator who demonstrates outstanding commitment to social studies instruction, fosters civic engagement, and inspires young learners to explore their communities and the wider world.
Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year
(Grades 5-8)
This award honors a dedicated middle school teacher who excels in making social studies relevant and engaging for adolescent learners, promotes critical thinking, and helps students develop a deeper understanding of history, geography, civics, and cultures.
Secondary Social Studies Teacher of the Year
(Grades 7-12)
This award celebrates a distinguished high school educator who demonstrates excellence in social studies teaching, encourages students to think analytically about complex issues, and prepares informed and engaged citizens.
Preservice Teacher of the Year
This award recognizes an outstanding preservice teacher who shows exceptional promise in social studies education, demonstrates innovative teaching practices, and exhibits a strong commitment to the profession and student learning.
